"King of Sting"

Photo 2003 Frank H Phillips, All Rights Reserved If you've ever watched Yellowjackets like this one, you know they don't sit still for long, and even when they're not flying they're still moving around rapidly, which makes them extremely difficult to photograph. When I came upon this one, it was on a very crisp morning in early Autumn, so he wasn't moving around much at all. It didn't take long for the heat from my flashes to warm him up, though, and he soon flew off.
